The 'epic' in-game event will give players the opportunity to unlock Red, Chuck and Bomb as playable characters for use within the endless runner by collecting special Angry Birds Epic tokens. You're also able to purchase them using premium currency.
Once the birds are unlocked they're yours to keep forever, but you've only got three weeks from today to unlock them. Whether they're anything more than just skins, though, isn't particularly clear.
